The Mason jar was invented by John L. in 1858. The original intention of the jar was to prolong the life of food, just as the family would use pickles, pickles and meat to preserve food. The jar is filled with hot water to keep it at a certain temperature. The hot jam is put into the jar, then the lid is closed and the hot water is put back into the jar. After a thermal expansion and contraction, when you unscrew the two-piece outer ring and the lid stays in place, you have sealed it.
